What should you compare in a battery quote?
A headline battery price is only useful when you know what is included, what the STC benefit is worth and whether the system is actually sized for your home.
Compare the full installed price
Ask whether the quote includes the battery, inverter or hybrid inverter work, switchboard work, installation, commissioning, monitoring setup, backup hardware if requested, travel/access costs and any required network or metering work.
Separate the battery STC benefit
Ask the seller to show the quoted price before and after the battery STC benefit and explain the value being attributed to the certificates. The official program says retailers and installers should provide information on the value of the discount.
Compare cost per usable kWh
For a first comparison, divide the post-support installed cost by usable battery capacity. This does not measure battery quality or warranty value, but it can help expose unusually expensive capacity.
Do not compare on size alone
A large battery that rarely fills from excess solar or rarely empties into household load can produce a worse financial result than a smaller, better-used system.
